ABSTRACT

At NTNU Faculty of Architectural Design and Fine Art we have more than 12 years of experience in challenging the first year architecture students to build full scale structures in regional wood. Through the terms somaesthetic and aesthetical thinking, the full scale building projects will in the following be discussed both on a general level, but also by comparing two specific years which represent rather different pedagogical approaches to aesthetical questions. The challenge introduced by the two aesthetical concepts is to go far enough, asking the larger and more open ended questions.
