ABSTRACT

Classrooms are the best trial laboratory for many of the Futuristic Structures and the Concept Architectural Buildings that have fed the imaginary of architecture throughout the 20th century through the union of the concepts of “biology” and “mechanics”. The theoretic proposals of Enric Miralles between 1993 and 1995 at the Städelschule Architecture (Frankfurt am Main) and at the Graduate School of Design (Harvard) affirm this line of experimentation through projects like the extension of the Seele Glass Factory in Gersthofen (1994) and the Sports Palace of Leipzig and Chemnitz (1995). Projects that allow us to understand three historic times around the different variables of a radial structure, the “rotorelief”: its first formulations in the Renaissance, its industrial consummation in the Russian constructivism and, finally, the search of mechanical laws that will abandon the mechanical logic to adopt a biological and real one: the formulation of “desire” as movement in the art from Duchamp finally would conclude in the “hyper-architecture of desire”.

An idea –a project- never is on the paper…(Enric Miralles 1995).
