ABSTRACT
Introduction The advances in science and technology achieved during the last few decades addressed a number of problems in healthcare globally. Now, even more innovative solutions are needed to address complex problems, such as: (1) an aging population; (2) increased prevalence of chronic diseases; (3) high costs of care delivery; and (4) economic constraints to assure continuity, quality, safety, and cost benefi ts of treatments and care.
