ABSTRACT
Introduction Several types of international standards are essential to support better information management-a key prerequisite of care that is safe, timely, effective, patient-centered, effi cient, and equitable. Historically, much of standards work within nursing has focused on terminology development. Over recent years, substantial progress has been made in regards to other types of standards that ensure that nursing practice is both represented and supported.
