ABSTRACT

E-Health E-health is the adoption and effective use of electronic health record (EHR) systems and other health information technology (IT) to improve healthcare quality, increase patient safety, reduce healthcare costs, and enable individuals and communities to make the best possible health decisions. Around the world, e-health is emerging as a powerful strategy to transform ailing healthcare systems. Strong e-health policies are required to accelerate the adoption of EHRs and related health IT globally. Section IV gives an around-the-world look at the current state for uses of information and communication technologies (ICT) in healthcare and, specifi cally, the status of nursing within these EHR initiatives. The move toward EHRs is rapidly becoming a world-wide phenomenon, driven by governments’ search for more effective and effi cient mechanisms to manage the health of their populations and to curb the escalating costs associated with care delivery.
