      ABSTRACT

This chapter describes macroergonomics and macroergonomic methods and also describes four methods, namely the macroergonomic analysis and design, macroergonomic analysis of structure, functional resonance analysis method (FRAM) and evolute approaches. These methods are commonly used and were most founded in the field of macroergonomics. FRAM points to a single function/activity of an organization and can be combined to create a map of several activities or functions. The computer integrated manufacturing, organizations and people method was developed for the evaluation of system design quality from the points of view of technology integration, organization, information systems, and people subsystems. The evolute approach is based on four propositions: model, involve, compute and manage. The evolute system computes and visualizes the perceived reality and the future vision of objects—for example, organizational subsystems. The evolute system can therefore be used to design and develop work system components (i.e., people, organizations, technology, cultures, and processes).
