1.1 Considerations

The construction sector is essential to the existence of housing, transport infrastructure and industrial buildings, shops and offices, contributing to the very quality of life. However, for many workers, as also for many families, the involvement of this sector leads to suffering associated with occupational accidents and diseases. The underperformance in this sector in terms of occupational safety and hygiene, is somewhat obvious. Despite the campaigns and initiatives, workers continue to die or suffer injuries at work.
