ABSTRACT

According to the ILO (2003) occupational accidents and work-related diseases are responsible by 2.3 million deaths annually, and also is responsible for the lost of ability to execute the work and to get a job of even more workers. In Brazil, the cost with accidents and work-related diseases represents 4% from the GPB-Gross Product Domestic (Brasil, 2013)

The majority of studies about occupational accidents are based on the information from Work Accident Communications (CAT), that is an official document used to report the work accident or worker sickness to the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), and death certificates. However, these Information Systems are fed only data on the formal worker, so clearly underreported. Face to this, is necessary to provide the real injured worker’s profile and the associated aspects of their origins, to define risk and group of risks for the safety policy that will be implemented whether based on evidence to guide effective practice (Brasil, 2006).
