ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In this paper, theses on the wheel wear under extreme winter conditions and the resulting requirements for a simulation of contact processes are formulated. Based on these requirements, the currently occurring modelling approaches for the wheel-rail contact in literature are classified. Further a particle simulation approach coupled with the Finite Element Method is presented. This approach is studied in order to connect the macroscopic parameters of wheel and rail and the microscopic processes (asperities) in the wheel-rail contact zone. With such a simulation it would be possible to check statements and supplement derived from practical observations and experiments on the wheel wear.
