ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The paper presents the details of the steering system model used in the Jilin University driving simulator. The steering model based on the physical structure and the key components are modeled. The dynamics of hand wheel, Ackerman steering and left-right steering components are modeled to dynamically calculate road wheel angel and coordinating the left-right sides, and improve the dynamic response of the simulation. The dynamic wheel model is built to realize the aligning torque feedback dynamically. The elastic of tire sidewall is modeled with the steering column, torsion bar and tie-rod to improve on center simulation ability. The stick-slip friction model that is used in the kingpin and tire road realized the simulation of anti-disturbance ability of steering system. The model is validated against the experimental data by using the ISO standard handing test and critical conditions such as parking, on centre and single wheel impact etc.
