ABSTRACT

240Phase manipulation of TiO2 was carried out by coating TiO2 on titanium substrate by the thermal decomposition and anodization methods using different precursors. The electrodes were studied for their surface morphology, phase formation and corrosion resistance. The electrocatalytic efficiency of the electrodes was studied for the electroreduction of fumaric to succinic acid. The product formed was isolated and confirmed by melting point measurement. The product was also confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic technique. Phase of TiO2 was found to be anatase and efficiency of electrocatalytic activity was high in the electrode obtained by the thermal decomposition of TiCl3/HNO3 compared to the other electrodes prepared by other methods and precursors.
