ABSTRACT

Soils are practically the universal medium of plant growth and fixed assets, so the economics of crop production largely depends on how well the soil is maintained. During the past few years, a great deal of attention has been paid to soil management practices that promote sustainable soil fertility and productivity (Doran and Jones, 1996; Pankhurst et al., 1997; Magdoff and Van Es, 2000). Human beings are dependent on soil and to a large extent, good soils are dependent upon human beings as they use the soils for varied purposes. Soil is the most important resource as fixed assets for strawberry production. It must be maintained at optimum fertility and productivity for beneficial strawberry production system. In this chapter, various aspects concerning selection and management of soils for profitable strawberry production are discussed.
