ABSTRACT

Spasticity is a common symptom of neurological disease, and can range from mild to severe and change over time, often from day to day or hour to hour. Main goal of treatment aims and measures are valuable, as after the trial, people and the team can evaluate whether the intrathecal baclofen improves our spasticity or whether a further trial is necessary. This can help people and the team decide if it would be an effective treatment for people in the long term. The aim is to find the dose that decreases spasticity enough to achieve our goals without causing unwanted side effects. This process takes time and involves gradually withdrawing any oral medication in use, and so it is important to appreciate that it may take 2–3 months or longer to find the dose that is most suitable for people as an individual.
