ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the adaptive control of the number of cards and the base-stock level of the buffers in as Shared Kanban Allocation Policy combined with controlled by base-stock Kanban constant work-in-process (BK-CONWIP) to keep a high level of performance when demand fluctuation and machine failures occur. It presents an overview of the production authorization cards policies and the production control strategies under investigation. The chapter discusses the proposed control policies. It also discusses the simulation model and experimental results. The simulation experiments are conducted with terminating simulations methodology to obtain more general results. The simulation experiments allow to provide a map of the main performance measures of the production system. The choice of the production control strategy is relevant for effectiveness and efficiency of the manufacturing system S. Ajorlou and I. Shams considered a multi-product, multi-machine serial production line operated under a CONWIP protocol.
