ABSTRACT
50Protecting information within the healthcare environment can be challenging, especially because it is necessary to share very sensitive healthcare-related information among a number of authorized parties, while at the same time protecting that information from unauthorized access, disclosure, use, modification, and retention. Information security and privacy are two distinct disciplines, but they are linked. This chapter will provide an overview of security and suggest ways for security and privacy efforts to work together to protect information in the healthcare environment.
