ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some remarks on the discrimination between local and global behavior of architectural complexes. Protection of cultural and architectural heritage represents an interdisciplinary challenge due to the coexistence of historical, artistic and structural issues. The seismic performance assessment of historical architectural complexes is usually a complex task due to the significant uncertainties in the characterization of material properties and structural details. Modern instruments and software packages for the architectural and structural representation are effective options for the analyst. In order to identify macro-elements in a large architectural complex, the modal displacement fields associated to the selected verticals are compared. The Pharmacy of Trisulti in Collepardo belongs to the architectural complex of the Carthusian Monastery of Trisulti, a monumental site lying on the Ernici mountains in the Lazio Apennines. The structure of the Pharmacy is relatively large in plan, with an L-shape configuration.
