ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the results of the tests on the influence of mortar on compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of the wall made of blocks of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete. The type of mortar essentially influences on the wall compression strength and level of cracking stresses. The greatest compressive strength was noted for dry walls and walls joined with the use of polyurethane glue. The resistance of walls with thin-layer joints with non-filled perpend joints is greater than the resistance of similar walls with filled vertical joints. Eurocode 6 (EC-6) as the basic standard for designing masonry structures allows for load-bearing walls on mineral mortars with the normal, thin-layer and strips bed joints as well as with filled or non-filled perpend joints. The characteristic strength of the tested walls was smaller than the characteristic wall strength determined basing on EC-6.
