ABSTRACT

The narrow ribs of bricks would split due to the dowel action when specimen bended perpendicular to its bed joints. Fired common brick was one of the most popular building materials in China; however, it was replaced by perforated concrete brick due to environmental protection. Mechanic properties of materials are the basic data to perform the study of structural members. In order to simulate the interface between masonry materials and precast concrete slabs, the surface holes of bricks in the research group were filled with higher strength mortar before they were constructed. The cracking loads were 61% to 78% that of the corresponding ultimate loads. First crack always appeared in one brick. During the second stage, new cracks would be observed in other bricks, and the fine cracks developed and connected to form big cracks.
