ABSTRACT

During the progresses made in methods for design and verification in structural engineering, different approaches could provide the minimum required safety. Limit State Design is one of the latest methods in this regard. This method uses various partial factors for different parameters involved in structure analysis. Comparing the behavior of structural model by means of reliability analysis and probabilistic models of behavior, linear method has been suggested as the most reasonable method. The effect of the partial safety factor utilization in this design method will be discussed for nonlinear limit state in case of flexural failure in unrein-forced masonry shear wall. In order to have the same behavior between resistance and design value in nonlinear method, the design value relation will be used for the deterministic solution, but a factor equal to partial factor will be used to map the probabilistic model of resistance in the same range of n like design value.
