ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes a wide experimental program on tuff masonry walls under diagonal compression and retrofitted by means of several innovative composite grids with inorganic matrices. Within a wide experimental program on tuff masonry walls under diagonal compression and retrofitted by means of several Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix systems, some of them have been chosen in order to be simulated by a detailed Finite Element model to improve the knowledge attainable by the test program. The experimental program consisted in diagonal compression tests carried out on 50 masonry walls made of Neapolitan yellow tuff. Mechanical properties of tuff blocks, mortar for joints, and grout for applying the grids were determined by means of experimental tests according to EN 1015-11 standard. The results of the unreinforced walls have been adopted to calibrate fracture energy of tuff stone and mortar.
