ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the progresses from the following three aspects: block series, structure techniques, and construction speed, respectively. With the rapid development of economy, China constructs up to 2 billion square meters new buildings in urban area per year, which mainly uses cast-in-place reinforced concrete technics with serious wastes and pollutions. The chapter also introduces the latest research contents from the aspects of applicable height of the structure system, development of fabricated technics, and carbon emission property compared to concrete structures. Some researchers and companies such as Rimatem Company, Germany has realized the prefabrication of non-reinforced masonry (RM) walls, and developed relevant production lines, transport tools, and hoisting equipment. In order to achieve well performance for the whole RM shear wall structures when applied in high-rise buildings, fully grouted block masonry walls and bond beams in each course of blocks were adopt.
