ABSTRACT

Bacpinar Village is a rural settlement in Kemaliye town of Erzincan province located in the East Anatolian Region of Turkey. The traditional fabric of the houses comprises of stone masonry terraced constructions with three to four floors. Baspinar settlement has been developed around a threshing field at the intersection point of two main roads connecting the Kutluca Village on the West and the Gunyolu Village on the North. Roof coverings of the buildings in Baspinar Village have been originally shaped as flat roof. The roof is covered with earth plaster, and the gaps between the timber have been sealed with juniper branches. The number of houses and oral history works show that Baspinar was initially a settlement with 300 houses. 191 dwelling houses have survived in the village; oral history works and field studies indicate that about 80-90 of them have been abandoned.
