ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of AT assessment protocols, describing three important models in the field including the international classification of functioning, disability and health, matching person and technology and human activity assistive technology. A systematic approach to the assessment process that incorporates these best practices will ensure they are followed during the assessment. The method, formality and systematic process for the functional assessment can and often does vary depending on the composition of the transdisciplinary team, time permitted for the assessment, environment where the assessment occurs, instruments used and the model followed. Through focus groups and discussions, it was determined that a report should communicate interdisciplinarity, user-centeredness, initial request, functional assessment, environmental factors, solutions explored, goal setting, information, monitoring and readability. The flowchart descends vertically with six rectangles connected in the center by arrows. Two arrows descend from the sixth rectangle branching off into two parallel rectangles, that connect at a bottom rectangle.
