ABSTRACT

Measuring the success or outcome of a project can be viewed from two perspectives, both of which require attention at the time of project initiation. First, the evaluation of the implementation itself is essential to project managers, as the information obtained can be used as lessons learned for future projects. The second perspective of the evaluation process addresses whether or not the project met the overall business need and the reason the project was funded and supported by the organization. The identified evaluation methodology should measure the quality and effectiveness of any software implementation. Each information technology (IT) investment is undertaken for a reason. With significant financial investments in software, it is important to develop and implement a strategy to assess and confirm that the expected benefits are realized. For each project, an organization should measure the success of the project itself and the success of meeting the need for which the project is intended.
