ABSTRACT

Pollution of natural resources due to release of several pollutants including hydrocarbons is a key human and ecological health concern. The hydrocarbons, like nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs), are of particular concern under varying environmental conditions because of their high sensitivity to subsurface variability, which enables them to spread widely. The main sources of NAPLs contaminants are above-ground storage tanks (AST) or underground storage tanks (UST) holding oil and/or petrochemical products, generally found near petroleum and natural gas production sites, petrol stations (USEPA 2005). Such types of pollution from (non)point sources transformed the quality of (sub)surface water to a toxic stream; thus, the remediation of soil-water resources is needed to reduce the hazards to humans and/or environment.
