ABSTRACT

In a powder flow in rotating cylindrical vessel, segregation due to a position of cross section in the cylindrical vessel is induced. In addition, zonal segregation in the axial direction is also induced in the rotating cylindrical vessel. Segregation is the phenomenon in which the homogeneity of compositions in a powder becomes heterogeneous. Therefore, it is considered to be the cause of trouble in many cases in powder processes. The basic mechanism of segregation is classified for surface segregation and interlayer segregation, limited to the gravitational field. The segregation phenomena are classified for each factors as follows: particle size difference: size segregation, density difference: density segregation, shape difference: shape segregation and repulsive force difference: resilience segregation. The in-layer segregation occurs inside of the layer when the deposited layer moves as seen in the case of discharge from the container. The basic mechanism of segregation is classified for surface segregation and interlayer segregation, limited to the gravitational field.
