ABSTRACT

Generally, the classification includes the wide process of particle separation, but the size separation process is the main part of classification process. The narrow size distribution of particles is required to improve the performance of products. The classification performance is evaluated by use of various index parameters based on the particle separator. The dry classification is widely used in many industrial processes. Classifiers of horizontal flow, vertical flow and inclined flow are all used in the industrial process. The centrifugal force is created either by the airflow in cyclone-type classifiers or by the mechanical revolution in air separators. The design of the cyclone and the individual components to optimize the performance has been investigated, and the sub-micron cut size is achieved, as well as the improvement of separation accuracy. The particle sedimentation velocity in a fluid is important in estimating the separation efficiency.
