ABSTRACT

A silo is a typical facility for storing powders or granular materials, so to say bulk solids. To store bulk solids on bear grounds or in warehouses is usual when there is not a limitation of the site area. A silo is usually very heavy because of the weight of bulk solids in it. Therefore, its structure, including a foundation, should be stronger than usual buildings. Naturally, the construction cost is expensive. A bin is usually a cylinder or a block and a hopper is a truncated cone or a wedge shape. A general function of a silo is storage and it should be effective in the system of bulk solids handling. A silo is used for the storage of bulk solids. Typical materials stored in silos are ores, grains, and powders. “Mass flow” has a flow profile in which all the stored particles are mobilized during discharge.
