ABSTRACT

Electrostatic powder coating has been widely utilized for surface finishing in many industrial applications. Transfer efficiency (TE) of electrostatic powder coating is commonly higher than that of traditional coating. For nonelectrostatic powder coating, regardless of the kind of powder particles TE increased with particle size and then approached to the constant TE. TE of nonelectrostatic powder coating increased linearly with particle size while TE of electrostatic powder coating increased slightly. Among the electrostatic powder coatings, TE of the corona-charging method was higher than that of tribo charging method. For common electrostatic powder coating, the air flow field can be treated as incompressible. The coating system consists of powder coating guns, powder feeding machine, powder coating booth, and powder collecting machine. P. Ratanatriwong and S. Barringer investigated the influence of particle size and the kind of particles on TE using corona-charging gun.
