ABSTRACT

In a quest for colors found in nature that would inform Issey Miyake's spring/summer 2009 collection, Dai Fujiwara and his creative team took to the Amazon to match 3000 color samples with the authentic hues found within the rivers' surrounding habitat. Colour Hunting in the Amazon documents their expedition on land and water. Vibrant textile color swatches were matched to the mosses growing on the trunks of fallen trees on the forest floor, while fresh flowers and leaves added bright interjections of magenta in contrast with wild glossy chartreuse greens. Leaves at different stages of decay gave an array of earthier shades and muted tonalities. In witnessing the plethora of color smattered on screen throughout this short film, the notion of ever describing a dustcoat as just “brown” is made to the viewer as carelessly absurd.
