ABSTRACT

Design products and systems to prevent glare and reflections, thereby ensuring that users can see things clearly and accurately. Glare is rarely a good thing—it interferes with seeing things, which, in turn, can lead to accidents. For example, glare can cause people to run into unseen objects, which is exactly what happens in many automobile and downhill skiing accidents. Glare obstructing on-screen information can also be hazardous. Glare can take the form of an overwhelming amount of light flooding one’s field of vision, as when driving in the direction of a rising or setting sun. Glare can also take the form of light reflecting off of glassy surfaces, such as computer monitors, mirrors, and windows. Trying to read a blood glucose meter when there is glare on the screen is not only frustrating, but it can also be hazardous.
