ABSTRACT
Globalisation is often seen as having a two-pronged impact on the intertwined domains of the economy, environment and society. It is said to bring about both positive and negative effects: on the one hand are the efficiency and economic gains, but on the other hand are the negative environmental externalities and social costs like persistence of poverty and exacerbation of inequality. The economic impact and environmental repercussions of trade have been well researched and documented, but the social implications remain an area that needs further exploration.
