ABSTRACT

The finite strip method (FSM), pioneered in 1968 by Y. K. Cheung (1968a, 1968b), is an efficient tool for analyzing structures with regular geometric planform and simple boundary conditions. Basically, the FSM reduces a two-dimensional problem to a one-dimensional problem. In some cases, computational savings by a factor of 10 or more are possible compared to the finite element method (Cheung, 2013).
