ABSTRACT

Hainan Province, located in the southernmost of Mainland China, is the nation’s largest province with the smallest land area and biggest ocean area. This region consists of Hainan Island, the Paracel Islands, the Spratly Islands, the Zhongsha Islands, and the waters surrounding these islands. Hainan covers a total land area of 35,354 square kilometers. Additionally, it has a sea area of over two million square kilometers. Hainan province is referred to as “琼” in Chinese; it has the jurisdiction of 19 cities and counties, including Haikou City as the provincial capital, which is located in the north of the island. Furthermore, Sanya is the biggest tourist city in the province, which is situated at the south of the island. By the end of 2014, the population of residents in Hainan province had reached 9.035 million.
