ABSTRACT

174Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is a very important and most popular fruit of India due to its delicious taste, attractive fragrance, and health benefits. The present experiment was conducted at the orchard block no. 4, IIHR, Bangalore, India, during the year 2014 on 30-year-old mango trees cv. Alphonso, planted at a distance of 10 m × 10 m in a square system to study the effect of different organic nutrients and biofertilizers on the fruit quality of mango cv. Alphonso. The observation on quality parameters viz. fruit weight, volume, pulp content, peel thickness, pulp/stone ratio, total soluble solids (TSS), acidity, reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar, total sugar, vitamin-C, (3-carotene content, and shelf-life were recorded against 14 different organic manures and biofertilizers treatments replicated thrice in a randomized block design having two trees per treatment per replication. Maximum fruit weight (258.60 g), fruit volume (256.67 cc), pulp weight (176.95 g), total sugar content (15.27%), ascorbic acid content (128.00 mg/100g pulp), (3-carotene content (22.35 mg/100 g of pulp), and TSS content (17.87 °B) with a minimum fruit acidity (0.030%) were recorded from the fruits of plants supplied with 100% RDF (recommended dose of fertilizer) farm yard manure (FYM) + Azotobacter + phosphorous solubilizing bacteria (PSB) + vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza (VAM). Treatment with 50% RDF FYM +Azotobacter + PSB + VAM recorded the maximum shelf life of 18.67 days. It can be concluded that among the different treatments, the application of 100% RDF FYM + Azotobacter + PSB + VAM gave the best results in respect of physical and chemical quality of fruit under organic management of mango cv. Alphonso.
