ABSTRACT

In viticulture, pruning grape vines is considered as the most important cultural practice, as it helps to control the growth and crop load. An investigation 326was made to access the impact of various pruning levels on petiole nutrient status, physiology, yield, and quality in grape (Vitis vinifera L.) cv. Italia at the Horticultural College and Research Institute, TNAU, Coimbatore, in two seasons, summer and winter season crop during December 2012–January 2014. Different pruning levels, viz., 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% pruning of canes for crop were imposed in two different seasons, namely summer and winter season crop. The results revealed that the treatment “T 3”, i.e., pruning 50% of the canes for crop yield and 50% of the canes for vegetative growth was found to perform well in both the seasons for the above mentioned characteristics.
