ABSTRACT

Success of a delivery system lies in its efficiency in providing the exact dose of therapeutic agent at intended site of the body at accurate time and for necessary period. The design optimization, characterization and development of drug delivery systems are crucial to confirm their clinical effectiveness. In vitro characterization in drug delivery system is of prime importance in gaining an insight into the prospective behaviour of the designed delivery systems and in estimating their in vivo behaviour while in vivo studies help to predict performance of delivery system in clinical studies. In this chapter, challenges encountered in performing in vitro and in vivo assessments of formulation in nano drug delivery research has been described along with the techniques explored to study in vitro and in vivo behaviour of novel delivery systems.
