ABSTRACT

Oral route is the most convenient, cheap, safe and acceptable route for administration of drugs. Oral drug delivery usually involves intraoral where drug to be absorbed through oral cavity and peroral where drug is absorbed mainly through intestine. This chapter deals with characterizations of mainly taste masking, mucoadhesion and dissolution of intraoral dosage forms. Models used for assessing intestinal permeability of novel drug delivery systems are discussed in detail. Examples related to the in vitro in vivo correlations of common formulations through this route are provided towards the end of this chapter.
