ABSTRACT

The focus of this essay is the pioneering research that Mordecai J. (Mark) Jaffe and his students at Ohio University (Athens, Ohio, USA) did during the 1960s and 1970s on acetylcholine (ACh) and cholinesterases (ChE) in plants. The story I will tell has roots in the prior work of other scientists and shoots in the work described in the papers in this volume.
