ABSTRACT

This paper presents an algorithm using a voltage-based fault index. The proposed method utilizes the Gabor Wigner distribution (GWD) and rule-based decision tree (RBDT) for the detection of faults on a transmission line, which is capable to detect power system faults instantly. The peak values of voltage-based proposed fault index are used to design rules for the classification of faults using the RBDT. The analyzed faults include line to ground (LG) fault, double line (LL), double line to ground (LLG), and three phase to ground (LLLG). The proposed study is performed in a MATLAB/Simulink environment using a two-terminal line.
