ABSTRACT

The components of a home are unique in layout, system designs and building materials. No two properties operate with air flows, moisture controls and other variables in the same way. Therefore, one needs training and education in building science to understand how moisture and air travel through materials and the forces involved in doing so.  For clients with chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), small particle remediation through the use of compressed air, misting, high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) vacuuming and multiple steps of damp and dry wiping are key. Failure to remove porous materials from the home may result in continued illness for the patient.  Environmentally safe building products, methods of construction, types of foundation, and methods of moisture control, ventilation and filtration will keep indoor air quality healthy and sustainable.
