ABSTRACT

Aegle marmelos L. Correa is medicinally and economically valuable tree species belongs to the Rutaceae family. The tree has been commonly used in indigenous systems of medicines due to its medicinal and nutritional properties. All parts of the tree have remedial significance. The leaves, fruits, bark, seeds and roots of the tree includes bioactive compounds such as marmeline, xanthotoxol, imperatorin, coumarin and aegeline. These compounds endow with antidiabetic, antifertility, antimicrobial, anticancerous, antiulcerative, immunogenic and insecticidal effects. A large number of scientific studies describe the medicinal and commercial value of the tree. The present chapter discusses on the potentials of A. marmelos as antidiabetic and other medicinal properties.
