ABSTRACT

The advent of social media is a game changer in the way information can reach and engage mass audiences. The chapter discusses the emergence and importance of social media platforms to effectively translate the latest in health research into effective and simple messages to reach a wider audience while dealing with the double sword of misinformation and disinformation. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for wider community engagement for the dissemination of information; the role of patient groups, public health groups, and influencers; and the benefit of public health campaigns in various languages to enable wider sharing of the latest information, to dispel myths, and to encourage discussions and debates, as well as enable access to credible health information and services.
