ABSTRACT

After originating in eastern and central North America and in South America, the fall armyworm is now widely reported in the most populous continents, Asia and Africa. An alarming global concern is supposed to happen after its eruption on these continents. Spodoptera frugiperda, has been grouped as one of the sporadic pests owing to its migratory behavior. Its epidemics and later damage are barely predictable. In outbreaks, the problem severity escalates onto the vegetative to reproductive plant structures, causing the chance to trigger massive crop losses. A comprehensive study regarding pest description, global distribution, GIS-based prediction, environmental impacts, maize as a fodder loss and foresee, molecular monitoring approaches, management practices, and future outlooks is highlighted in this chapter for coping with this pest for future food insecurities.
