ABSTRACT
Wireless communication represents a wide area of radio technologies, as well as protocols on a wide scope of transmission frequencies. Although initially used in venues where traditional wired networks were previously unavailable, the flexibility of wireless communication together with the adoption of the 802.11 standard has driven wireless communication to rapidly move into the information technology environment in the form of the so-called “wireless local area networks” (WLANs). This chapter aims to give information security practitioners a quick overview of WLAN technology and an indepth view of the current security aspects of the same technology. Likewise, it presents possible solutions and directions for future developments.
