ABSTRACT
Predicting the future of a rapidly evolving field is always a treacherous exercise. One is more often likely to be incorrect than correct in suggesting what will happen beyond the current era. This point is well illustrated by reviewing the predictions that notables made in this or other fields 10 years ago, which generally highlight the inadequacy of our scientific prescience.
