ABSTRACT

This paper will review 22 therapeutic trials published in the American literature between 1982 and 2002 which evaluated the potential clinical benefits of permanent magnets/static magnetic fields (SMFs). Obstacles encountered when attempting to perform randomized controlled trials in this area of research will be discussed with regard to SMF devices and parameters applied, medical conditions treated, and research designs utilized. Recommendations for more precision in performing and reporting future clinical trials will be made.
