ABSTRACT

This short chapter briefly describes (1) the effects of cocaine and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) on the cardiovascular system; (2) the ongoing research at the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a part of the National Institutes of Health; and (3) directions for future research on the subject. Additionally, the reader is referred to more extensive reviews by Das and Laddu (1), Kloner et al. (2), and Wilkins (3).
