ABSTRACT

A major focus of drug development is the formulation of novel drug delivery systems. Novel or new mechanisms of drug delivery offer patients the potential to enhance their quality of life by providing more convenient dosing intervals, fewer side effects, less drug-related toxicity, and better therapeutic control. New delivery systems are developed with certain patient populations in mind-for example, rectal diazepam gel (Diastat) in the pediatric population to abort acute repetitive seizures (ARS).
