ABSTRACT

Over the course of time, time-honored medical therapies occasionally develop in the absence of solid clinical data. In the modern era of pro spective randomized controlled trials demonstrating major advances in therapy for coronary artery disease (CAD), for example, physicians have come to expect a more robust evidence base in cerebrovascular disease. Unfortunately, the body of literature is limited, specifically in the area of therapy for patients with asymptomatic extracranial carotid artery stenosis (CAS).
